Tucked away at 226 Coleraine Road, just north-west of the Hamilton city centre, is a labour of love that has evolved into one of the region's most surprising and extensive private collections: the Campe's Motor Museum. Far more than just a haven for car enthusiasts, the museum offers a fascinating journey through 20th-century history, showcasing the lifelong passion of local residents Glen and Margaret Campe.

The museum's story began in 1979 when Glen and Margaret Campe started their own coach business from scratch. Over decades of hard work, they built a successful fleet of 14 buses before selling the company in 2011, which allowed them to dedicate their time to their true passion: collecting and restoring vintage vehicles.

Today, the result is an impressive display of over 80 classic cars, trucks, and motorbikes, alongside thousands of pieces of historical memorabilia, including antique radios, toys, model trains, and even a collection of 4,000 original records. Among the star attractions are a stunning 1929 Stutz, a 1933 Citroen, and an iconic 1955 Ansett Clipper Bus, which visitors can actually board and explore.
What sets this museum apart is its interactive, hands-on approach. Unlike many establishments where vehicles are roped off, visitors are encouraged to get up close, open doors, and even sit inside some of the cars, providing a truly immersive, nostalgic experience. The friendly owners are often on hand to share personal stories and details about each item, making the visit engaging and informative.
